What We Do

Cornwall Buildings Preservation Trust is an enabling organisation that works with partners to save empty or derelict historic buildings whose future is at serious risk.

Since we were established in 1973, we have carried out a range of projects throughout Cornwall including securing the future of Old Duchy Palace in Lostwithiel, which we now manage. During 2024-5, we carried out improvement works aimed at reducing the building’s carbon footprint – for more details, see our Projects page.

We would also like to take on a new project. Our present focus is on significant industrial, commercial or institutional buildings that could be conserved and re-purposed for long term business or community use, and become a catalyst for wider regeneration. The Old Duchy Palace is Grade 1 listed and many see it as one of the most historically significant buildings in Cornwall. It was good to see how the preservation work is being done, managed by CBPT, and the equipment needed to maintain this historically significant building.
